About
About the NbS Map Platform
A national GIS-based platform on Nature-based Solutions (NbS) for climate-resilient Philippine cities, developed under Phase 2 of Climate Resilient Cities – NURTURE (CRC-NURTURE).
The platform consolidates spatial and related information on NbS projects, hazards, population and socioeconomic conditions, tenurial instruments, and biodiversity and ecosystems, starting with the pilot cities of Legazpi, Borongan, and Zamboanga. It is a repository of NbS projects in the pilot sites and of existing and emerging NbS sites across the country, particularly those implemented or supported by the NbS Support Network.
What the platform lets you do
- Learn about NbS and their relevance to the Philippine context.
- Explore existing NbS initiatives and the spatial information around them.
- Search, filter, and visualise appropriate NbS approaches from the data available for the pilot sites.
- Browse the integrated catalogue of NbS approaches and practices.
Partners
Forest Foundation Philippines works with Catholic Relief Services (CRS), with funding from the United Kingdom's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), to develop the platform. It is to be institutionalised with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Climate Change Service (DENR-CCS). Forest Foundation Philippines, CRS, and DENR jointly own the outputs.
Contributing data
Members of the NbS Support Network sign in and upload project sites, layers, and documents from the data catalogue. Uploads stay unpublished until a moderator reviews and approves them, and every resource carries metadata on its source, date, licence, and extent.
Open standards
The platform runs on GeoNode, free and open-source software. Every published layer is available through OGC web services (WMS, WFS, WCS) and its metadata through CSW, so DENR-CCS and partners can use it from QGIS, ArcGIS Pro, or their own portals. See the developer page.
